A 30th anniversary party and fundraiser for Monterey County Gives! Squid. Dancing. Frivolity.

The legend of long ago Halloween Balls at the Portola Hotel has taken on mythical sensibilities. Back in the 90’s, the streets of Monterey came alive each October with the freaks and clowns, the jokers and ghouls, all looking for dancing and frivolity. Coast Weekly as it was known in those days threw some epic parties at the Doubletree Hotel (also since renamed). Those parties haven’t happened for a while, but Monterey County Weekly is turning 30 this month and to celebrate we’re bringing the Halloween Ball back for 2018.

What does the VIP experience entail? A private bar, professional hair and makeup to juice up your costume, drink tickets, encore entertainment, a place to chill out, and more.

The Halloween Ball will have multiple no-host bars with discounted signature drinks, squid bites, and other festive treats. We’re bringing in a photographer to showcase your costumes, party favors with treats from the Monterey County Weekly (as well as from our event sponsors). We’re also bringing in about 500 pounds of pumpkins. This is no ordinary party.

With two hot nationally touring bands and DJ Hanif Wondir, this is a party for dancing. Fresh off shows at the sold out Outside Lands and Telluride Brews and Blues festivals, Marin County’s Monophonics headline the event with their wispy, soulful and groovy sound. Harold Ray and the East Side Dynamite are a bay area mainstay party outfit.

Speaking of costumes, when you plan yours, do so knowing that Monterey County Weekly is awarding cash prizes for the top three costumes. The voting takes place after 10:30pm with $1,000 cash for first place, $500 for second and $250 for the runner up.
